Vol. 18 | Reasons to buy a property in the Winter
Reasons to buy a property in the Winter
As the saying goes, “buy when no one else is shopping”. In the winter months, you are likely going to be facing less competition as shoppers who have the I’m not in a rush, let’s just see what happens” mentality do not stay up to date with the market through the winter months. If you stay motivated you may be able to find your dream property during these slower months. You also will likely not be in as crazy of a multiple bid situation as you would come spring market.
Because agents and sellers usually take properties that haven’t sold off the market during the holidays and slower winter months, if a property remains on the seller is probably super motivated. This means you may be able to get the seller to sweeten the deal for yourself a little bit, depending on your market and the property. This could be with price, terms, conditions, etc depending on their situation and whether they are staying on the market because of time restraints. But please stay away from low-ball offers!
You can see a property in the middle of new England’s toughest weather season. If you’re looking at property and we had just gotten a snowstorm or some heavy winds you can see how the property will probably hold up in winters to come.
Prices are probably lower in the winter market than if they listed at premium during the spring market. There certainly is more inventory in a spring market but you may be able to snag a good one if you continue to stay motivated through the winter.
