Vol. 17 | Common Relocation Questions and Considerations

Have you been asked for relocate for a job? There is a lot to consider when making this decision but if you have decided it is the right move(literally) for you then before you do anything else stop of consider the following:

What is your relocation package from your new employer? Will they cover any closing costs as an incentive to get you to buy in their city? Do they offer any down payment assistance? Will they cover any or all of your moving costs? For example, the boxes, movers, temporary housing… And, if you have to sell a property to relocation will your employer be offering any help to get that sale done?

Make sure to have a NO Pack Room/Box/Section. Movers come in and pack up really fast, without a no pack section it’s possible that they pack up some stuff you will need more urgently than some other belongings. Things to put in this section would be license, keys, checkbook, and important documents. If you go for a city visit and decide to put in an offer or need to write that rent check you don't want to be wondering which box among the many that you put your checkbook and financial information in.

When starting to learn about the new city you’ll be relocating too, do research on the surrounding neighborhoods. Learn about the school systems, transportation and roads/routes to your new job, amenities in the neighborhood (shopping, sports complex, grocery stores, parks, etc.) and lastly, what is the house pricing like in different neighborhoods. Know the more expensive ones, the affordable ones, and the up and coming ones. Know where to be and where not to be.
